It’s become an annual thing. A friend and I fly out to a stunning location where we can relax, get inspired, and spend some dedicated time working on our projects. Last October we were in Port Orford, Oregon and it was simply incredible!
Can you believe this was my view from my bedroom AND my work space?
This year we chose another Wander property, this time in Northern California, a little place called Gualala. I had NEVER heard of Gualala, but when I saw the photos of this property we just HAD to go! Which location was more beautiful? I can’t say, but I’d like to tell you a little bit about Wander, how I found them, and why I’m in LOVE with their properties.
Last year, feeling burnt out, but still wanting to get some projects done I googled something like “best places to work remotely.” Somehow I came upon the Wander.com site, and I think at that time they only had maybe 10 or 12 properties listed. EVERY SINGLE location was gorgeous, but what got me interested in booking was that their smart homes were entirely set up to get work done–modern workstations with standing desks, huge monitors, mics, web cams, and the best chairs ever for working. Plus, each home comes with a Tesla so that you can tour your surroundings in style! Technology + aesthetics?! I was sold!
After staying in Port Orford I discovered more reasons to love Wander properties besides the amazing locations and views and the modern smart homes that are to die for. 1) there’s a concierge at your fingertips, and they are “Johnny on the Spot” right there to answer any questions or help you with any difficulty you may run into, 2) the BEDS! OMG, the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. 3) the TOWELS–I didn’t realize towels existed like these. And these features are consistent throughout every single Wander property, 4) While we were in Port Orford, a local shopkeeper told me that Wander was started by a guy who lives in Austin–my home town! How cool is that? I could go on and on.
So after staying in the Port Orford property, I quickly booked another stay in Joshua Tree for my company’s team retreat. Another steller stay! Wander actually interviewed me for their YouTube channel, so if you want more details you should watch it here.
And that’s how I ended up in Gualala this year. It was a tough choice, but one I 100% do not regret! I filmed content for my business, explored the town–the locals are the nicest people on earth–and may or may not have drunk copious amounts of wine overlooking the ocean and listening to the sea lions bark.
This year’s workcation was nearly perfect… Four days wasn’t enough. I should have stayed longer.
